Small: Rigid shells can resist shear and torsion loads betterthan lattice structures.
Large: Rigid shells are less safe than lattice structures as they develop fractures or cracks which can be unstoppable. Whilst lattices can have redundancy built into them. The failure of one member does not mean failure of the whole.
