Materials Process and Manufacture

Materials Process and Manufacture

Process materials: modify the new material and after the
properties to make material more useful. [13-18]
3.2.2 Ways of making
- Waste: Remove pieces of material until the shape or
form wanted remains.
- Construct: Make a whole out of parts, joining together.
- Form: Change the shape or form of a piece of material
by bending, folding, pressing, forging.
- Cast: Pour a liquid over or into a mould.
3.2.3 Ways of making Timber
-Timber conversion/seasoning in yard and factory.
-Prefabricated timber trusses.
-Compression, tension, shear and bending.
-Joining timber interpenetrating joints.
-Process boards
3.2.4 Timber properties
Stiffness, elasticity and durability

How to modify the existing roof to have more sunlight

How to modify the existing roof (material) to have more sunlight (environment) get inside the building!

Propose to add glass materials, skylight, to the exits green roof system in the Park building to increase the natural light inside the building.

This may help to reduce the use of artificial light
of florescent light and save electricity cost. In addition, the
ventilation in the new skylight would help to reduce the
frequency use of the extracted fans.

In order to present the relation between the primary, skylight
(materials) and the solar geometry (environment), the sunpath
was used to investigate.

It is found that there are three
sides of the roof face the sun direction at 9 PM in the morning,
12 PM lunch time and 3 PM afternoon. They are:
• South and West side in the morning
• South, East and West side in the afternoon
• South and East side in the afternoon

Example: Sun-path in September
